The 2019 Kingswood Nordic Ski Teams have 17 athletes returning and 9 athletes new to the team. One of our returning members is recovering from knee surgery and will act as a manager and wax guru.
The high school girls team is the largest of the 4 teams. Returning to the team are:
senior Sarah Rose Huckman
juniors: Allison Bean, Sarah Bellefleuir, Liz Morrison, and Sarah Peternel (back from a year off)
sophomores: Rosemary Carpenter, Sarah Carpenter, Carolyn Day, Ashley Diamond
freshman (from last year's middle school girls team) Ginger Plache
New to the high school girls team this year are:
senior Sami Hotchkiss
junior Caitlin Carpenter
sophomore: Tayghan Gelinas
The high school boys team are all returning from a Kingswood Nordic Team last year:
senior: Jim Huckman - manager and wax guru
junior: Axel Plache
sophomore: David Sandoval
freshmen: Jackson Boudman, Robbie Hotchkiss and Tim Huckman
The middle school boys team has one returning member: Aidan Thompson. New to the team this year are Grey Kreis and Samuel Frazier.
The middle school girls team also has one returning member: Marcella DeNitto. New to the team this year are Lirael Craycraft, Abigail Fleming, and Hannah Ritchings.
The Nordic Ski Season has a delayed start due the delayed end of the season. The high school state meet is Tuesday, March 5th. The team will begin its practices on Monday, December 3rd.
The team will again host the Abenaki Sprints. This year's date is Tuesday, February 5th. We are hoping for classical sprints in advance of the Saturday, February 9th classic NH Coaches Series race. The freestyle NH Series race is Saturday, January 26th.
This season we will compete against more out of division schools. Kearsarge is hosting a multi divisional race on Tuesday, January 8th at Proctor Academy. The Lakes Region Championship will be on Thursday, February 21st.
We will also be racing at Great Glen, White Mts. High School, the Plainfield School (Lebanon's site), and at Bow High School. Bow and Oyster River joined Division 2 Nordic starting this year.
The Middle School State Championship is again at the Sandwich Fairgrounds on Monday, February 18th.
The Kingswood Cross Country running coach, Mick Arsenault, will be joining the team as Assistant Coach. Steve Flagg has again agreed to setting up waxing stations at his Nordic Skier shop. He will again be doing the nordic grooming.
The team held a racer and parent meeting on Thursday, November 15th.
We are hopeful that we will again send Kingswood representatives to the all state New Hampshire U16 team, competing this year March 8 - 10 at Sunday River, and to the all state New Hampshire Eastern High School Championships which will be March 14 - 17 this year in Fort Kent, Maine.
We will be participating in the first winter athlete combine to be held Friday, November 30th from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 pm. before the Media Day events. Report to the gym immediately after school dressed in indoor exercise clothes.
