The Knights Girls' Soccer Team traveled to Kearsarge Friday, September 16th. The team had a well played first half, keeping the score to 1-0 until two minutes before the half when a knuckle ball went over the head of keeper Sarah Harrigan. The game was tied 25 minutes into the first half. The first Kearsarge goal was off a rebound.
During the second half, at the 1 minute mark a Knight defender was beat and a goal was scored on the near side. Another Kearsarge knuckle from the 18 made its way to the back of the net at 11 minutes. At the 29 minute mark an air ball was converted from inside the 18 with a one touch. The scoring ended at the 31 minute mark when Kearsarge converted a shot to the far side of the net.
Despite the score, the Kingswood team played some of their best soccer of the season. Missing starting defender Shawna Knowles, the rest of the team stepped up. Fresh from learning from a trip to see the USM Gorham Women's soccer team defeat Salem State on Wednesday, the team was able to put some of what they learned into improving their game. The Knights had many successful one touch passes. The team did a better job of keeping their shape. The Knights were also very good at defensive rotations and clearing the ball from in front of the Kingswood goal. Communication between the players was better. Keeper Sarah Harrigan saved 22 of 28 shots. Many of the saves were with dives to the feet of the attackers. Both Coach Andy Ferland and Coach Tom Merrell noticed the improvement in the play and praised the team for how far they have come..
The team travels to Weare next week. The Knights will play simultaneous Varsity and JV games at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20th.
