Busy week for Nordic Knights
Updated on 02/20/2019 | Josh Spaulding
It was a busy week for the Kingswood Nordic team.
JACKSON — The Kingswood Nordic team competed on back-to-back days last week, battling the frigid cold on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Gunstock and enjoying blue skies in Jackson on Thursday, Jan. 14.
At Gunstock, the team took part in the paintball biathlon. In that race, skiers took one classical lap, fired five shots at the target, did another lap, fired five more shots and then finished a final lap. For each target hit, 10 seconds was subtracted from each racer's time.
Mary Kretchmer had an impressive day for the Knights, as she finished first in a time of 15:08 without hitting any targets.

WATERVILLE VALLEY — There will be a new banner hanging in the Kingswood gym, thanks to junior Mary Kretchmer, who dominated the Division II Nordic meet on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Waterville Valley.
Kretchmer skied to the win in both the morning classical race and the afternoon freestyle race to earn a pair of Division II championships. She led the Knight girls to third place overall behind defending champion Kennett and Lebanon. Kingswood was 40 points behind the second-place Raiders.
In the morning classical race, Kretchmer finished in a time of 14:41, which was more than a minute and a half ahead of the second place finisher, Zoe McKinney of Kennett.

FRYEBURG, Maine — Mother Nature hasn't exactly been kind to Nordic skiers this winter.
Meets have been cancelled and moved throughout the season and that didn't change when the regular season ended.
With a lack of snow in Sugar Hill, the original site for the Nordic Meet of Champions, organizers looked around and finally found a spot to host the race this past Saturday. However, they had to go out of the state to do so.
