Gwizdala leads XC Knights to strong finish

Thanks to everyone who made the trek over to Waterville Valley to watch the team run. It was a perfect day for a cross country race! And our athletes performed very well.

The girls team finished a solid fourth out of 9 teams. And they had some strong individual performances. Also, they set some goals and many of them achieved those racing goals. It was wonderful to hear Hannah say, "I loved that race!" after she finished.

Individual results (88 runners in the race):
Sarah H., 18th, 23:21 (53 seconds faster than last year)
Eileen, 22nd, 23:37
Grace, 27th, 23:58 (breaks 24 for the second time ever and 2:48 faster than last year!!)
Hannah, 46th, 25:57
Sarah B, 48th, 26:07
Emma, 61st, 26:58
Liz, 78th, 29:21
Molly, 82nd, 30:29

It would be great to see some breakthrough races for the girls next weekend. Let's talk about, and focus on, running really tough next weekend! I recommend rereading (or reading for the first time) this article:  "My pal, pain". It has a great perspective of racing, how you will feel during a race, and how to change that perspective to help you be a better runner.

Congratulations to the boys team who finished second out of 12 teams, only 8 points behind a very strong Kearsage team (they are D3, but ranked #10 in NH). The competition was not as strong as some other meets... but, as a reminder, at the Sanborn meet, we were 70 points behind them! And they had four runners ahead of our second runner. At Waterville we hadthree runners ahead of their second runner. (And, yes they had all the same runners, I checked.) Our boys ran very well and are improving! Results would be different in a bigger field, especially because they had 7 in the top 18 at the meet.

And a big congratulations to Owen! He led for the first mile-ish of the race, fell behind to be about 10 seconds behind at the 3/4 to-go mark, and then came from behind to win a very close race.

Owen's performance should remind us not to give up when racing, even if you fall behind a bit! Also, it should show all of you that all of your hard work and training will pay off, especially if you are willing to take some risks and make "pain your pal" while racing (see this article for a different perspective on pain:  "My pal, pain"

Individual Boys Results (there were 136 runners in the race):
Owen, 1st, 17:15 (40 seconds faster than last year)
Cam, 4th, 17:26 (47 seconds faster than last year)
Wyatt, 8th, 17:34
Brodie, 17th, 18:32 (12 seconds faster than last year)
Brent, 27th, 19:05, (1:37 faster than last year!)
Jim, 32nd, 19:12 (1:22 faster than last year)
Isaac, 33rd, 19:13 (49 seconds faster than last year)
Dana, 55th, 20:25
Adam, 59th, 20:29 (23 seconds faster than last year)
Josh, 67th, 21:13
Max, 71st, 21:23
Sheldon, 81st, 21:31
Devin, 93rd, 22:17
Jack, 106th, 23:11
Patrick, 110th, 23:28
Rian, 127th, 25:32

Our next race is at Coe-Brown. That race is a big race with lots of competition. The first race is at 2:30 (there at SATs that day, so there is a late start). Details to come.

Enjoy your Sunday and see you tomorrow.
