In the first tilt of the season the Lady Knights Ice Hockey team faced off against the Lebanon Raiders. The game got off to a slow start for the Knights as Lebanon went up two nothing early on goals 43 seconds apart in the first period. The Kingswood defense led by Nikki Cayon in goal, Ali House and Alissa Baldwin on defense then shut them down ending the first period two to nothing, and then holding them scoreless in the second. An unfortunate injury forced Jenna Luby from the game, as she was playing solid defense.
Going into the third period, down by two, a nice forecheck and net drive by Claire Richard and Kara Luby led the Kingswood’s first goal of the year scored by Richard with the assist from Luby.
With continued pressure Kingswood was able to even the score one minute and ten seconds later with Jillian Luby’s first ever high school goal. Lebanon then found life, netting two late to take a 4-2 lead. With 59 seconds left and Cayon pulled from goal, Jillian Luby tallied her second of the game with an assist from Kara Luby to bring it to a 4-3 score. That is how the game would end. The Kingswood team had a gutsy performance in their first game of the season, never quitting and never stopping the fight. Goaltender Cayon have 41 saves for the Knights while Lebanon’s goalie had 9 saves on 12 shots.
