Drew Connelly and Russell Lucia combined for a 9-8 (7-4) tie-breaker victory to decide the match against Kennett. The victory was a fitting end to a hotly contested that match that saw Kingswood pull out its fourth win in as many matches.
The Knights led 3-1 after victories by Connelly (8-3), Aaron Kust (8-1) and Burke Ruel (8-1). Noah Smith played well but fell 8-4. A chance to clinch the match in singles fell just short as No. 1 Jake Merrill lost 9-8 (7-3) and No. 3 Lucia lost for the first time this season (8-6).
That sent the match into doubles tied at 3-3., Kust and Ruel cruised to an 8-1 win in third doubles, meaning a win at either No. 1 or No. 2 would give the match to the Knights. Both matches were tied 2-2. At first doubles, Kennett slowly pulled away from there and won 8-4. That left the drama to second doubles. Neither team could pull ahead by more than one game, Connelly/Lucia held leads of 4-3, 5-3, 6-5 and 7-6, before Kennett rallied for an 8-7 lead. Connelly/Lucia then broke Kennett's serve to tie the match at 8-8 and force the match-deciding tie-breaker. Kennett took a 3-2 lead in the tie-breaker before Connelly/Lucia won four straight for a 6-3 lead. Kennett closed to 6-4, before the Kingswood duo finally closed out the match by winning the decisive point.
With the win the Knights improve to 4-0 and host Plymouth in a double header at home Wednesday.
